French-Algerian Maghnes Akliouche officially chose on Wednesday to represent France.

This is a major blow for Algeria. Having been left out of all Didier Deschamps' squads during his impressive run last season, Maghnes Akliouche is finally joining the French national team this Wednesday, August 27. It’s his very first call-up—a decision that effectively ends his chances of playing for the Fennecs of Algeria.

"Maghnes is more of a wide player. He had a good season with Monaco, he can still improve his efficiency, but he does interesting things," explained Didier Deschamps, head coach of Les Bleus, at a press conference.

This first call-up could be the start of many more, as the Monaco player’s future remains uncertain with the summer transfer window still open.
