As Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona continues to be shrouded with uncertainty, the midfielder may have dropped a hint of what is in store for him ahead of the next season.

The Netherlands international has become a subject of intense transfer speculation, with Manchester United pushing to sign him.

And while Barcelona wish to keep hold of him, the financial situation at the club means that they are not ruling out the possibility of accepting a sizable offer for the 25-year-old midfielder.

Manchester United, for their part, are unwilling to offer €82 million for de Jong. But with incoming manager Erik ten Hag pushing for his signing, the Red Devils could launch a significant offer for de Jong.

And, the midfielder might have dropped a hint that he could be on the move this summer by some of his actions on Saturday.

Arriving for training at the Ciutat de Esportiva, de Jong brought gifts for fans in attendance and handed out several pairs of boots and t-shirts, reports Gerard Romero.

The journalist adds that the former AFC Ajax midfielder told fans that he wanted to say goodbye to everyone who was at the training complex every day to show their support to the team.

Whether it is a goodbye in the sense that he will leave the club in the summer or because the 2021/22 campaign is coming to an end remains to be seen. But, speculations surrounding his future at Camp Nou refuse to go away.

Barcelona face off against Villarreal in their final La Liga game of the season at Camp Nou on Sunday. After that, they travel to Australia for a friendly encounter against the A-League All Stars team before breaking off for the summer.

Whether de Jong will still be a Barcelona player when the team reconvenes for the pre-season remains to be seen.
