Frenkie De Jong is set to sign for PSG despite preferring a move to Manchester City to play under Pep Guardiola.
The 21-year-old Dutchman had been identified as the Spaniard’s top midfield target but City are set to miss out with PSG willing to pay Ajax’s €75m asking price, according to the Daily Mirror.
It is understood Guardiola hoped to land De Jong to eventually succeed 33-year-old Fernandinho in midfield and the youngster was keen to work with him.
However, despite reportedly telling friends City was his desired destination, he will move to PSG with the Manchester Club not prepared to pay such a huge fee.
The report states Ajax were confident the academy star would join City but suspect the club may be worried about Financial Fair play.
Juventus were also in the hunt but De Jong has elected to join the Ligue giants.
Turning 22 in May, the player already has five caps for the Netherlands.
