Manchester City are in the race for Lille and France goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier amid ongoing doubts over the future of Ederson this summer, according to reports.

Ederson sought a transfer to the Saudi Pro League last summer but no suitor club was able to meet Manchester City’s asking price for their number one, which is understood to have been in the region of £50 million.

The Brazil international is entering the final 12 months of his existing contract at the Etihad Stadium and there have been doubts rising over Ederson’s long-term future in Manchester in recent seasons, with Stefan Ortega Moreno playing a greater role in the team.

The German stepped in for Ederson when the latter struggled with injury in what was a difficult 2024/25 campaign by all accounts for Pep Guardiola and co, who only managed a third-place Premier League finish and exited the UEFA Champions League before the last-16.

Entering the final year of his current deal as well, Ortega Moreno has kept the door open for a new chapter and refused to rule out a summer departure from the Etihad when quizzed about his club future on international duty in March.

Pep Guardiola offered an update on the respective future(s) of his current goalkeeping pair, stating that he expects Ederson and Stefan Ortega Moreno to stay put into the new season as the duo continue to be linked with exits.

However, Ederson is believed to remain open and keen on a new chapter while Ortega Moreno open to a return to Germany, which means there could be another addition in the offing for City in what has already been a busy opening 10 days of the summer transfer window.

City announced the signing of left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves on Monday and are expected to confirm the arrivals of midfielders Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders on Tuesday – deadline day before the market shuts ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Now, as reported by Le Parisien and relayed by Get Football News France, Manchester City are interested in signing Lille shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier to strengthen their prospects between the sticks this summer.

The 23-year-old has two years remaining on his contract and has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, with the latter hitting an impasse in contract negotiations with Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has been linked with both Manchester clubs.

It remains to be seen whether City or United formalise interest in Chevalier as they keep tabs on Donnarumma’s contract talks at Parc des Princes, with the Italian reportedly left unsatisfied with the terms offered by the recently-crowned UEFA Champions League winners.

However, it is worth nothing City are only likely to move for Chevalier if they alter their stance on either of Ederson or Ortega Moreno should an offer arrive for either deemed too good to turn down.

Manchester City are also confident of signing veteran Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea on deadline day after announcing cult-hero Scott Carson’s departure from the club upon the expiry of his Etihad Stadium contract
