SC Freiburg will contest their first ever DFB Pokal final next month after a comprehensive semi-final victory over Hamburger SV.

Scorers: Glatzel 88′; Petersen 11′, Höfler 17′, Grifo 35′ (pen)

Nils Petersen opened the scoring after 11 minutes when he headed home a rebound after HSV had been unable to clear their lines from a corner.

The second goal came with 17 minutes on the clock, when Nicolas Höfler’s effort deflected off the unwitting Sebastian Schonlau on its way into the net.

And it was 3-0 10 minutes before half-time, with Vincenzo Grifo converting from the penalty spot after Moritz Heyer had brought down Nico Schlotterbeck in the box.

Robert Glatzel pulled a late consolation goal back for the hosts but it mattered not, and Christian Streich’s side will now face either RB Leipzig or Union Berlin in the final in the capital on 21 May.
