Manchester United were made to work for it but following their crucial win over Villarreal last week, a hard-fought point at Stamford Bridge was secured in what could be Michael Carrick’s final game in charge of the side.

The former United midfielder was named caretaker manager following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and the club has now confirmed that Ralf Rangnick will be the interim manager for the remainder of the season.

Carrick set up his side to be disruptive and the compact organisation troubled Chelsea, with the tenacious midfield performance culminating in the most organised outing of the season.

United will feel unlucky to not have walked away with three points but ultimately, with all things considered, it’s a good point to bring into a new regime under Rangnick.

David de Gea – 8 Made a couple of great saves to keep United at bay, including a one-versus-one on Hudson-Odoi.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5 Struggled for most of the game and gave away the penalty.

Victor Lindelof – 8 Recovered from a nervy start and ended the game composed and strong.

Eric Bailly – 8 Increasingly trustworthy in the backline – he’ll be hoping to feature more under the new manager.

Alex Telles – 8 Probably his best performance in a United shirt.

Nemanja Matic – 7 Kept things ticking over nicely and used his composure on the ball to keep Chelsea’s relentless pressure at arm’s length.

Scott McTominay – 9 Awarded the broadcaster’s man of the match and another top performance against a big side.

Fred – 9 It would’ve been a perfect score if he scored that chance in the closing exchanges. Apart from that failed chip, it was another impressive performance from the Brazilian.

Bruno Fernandes – 6 Played in a different role and often struggled to stamp his authority on the game.

Jadon Sancho – 8 It looks like he has finally arrived at the club – two goals in two games suggest the breakthrough has come.

Marcus Rashford – 6 Two different players on either side of half-time.

Substitutions Cristiano Ronaldo – 6 Carrick would’ve been hoping for the mercurial star to score the winner but it wasn’t to be.
