Frank McAvennie says that it is about time somebody was sticking up for Newcastle United fans.

Earlier this week, the latest announcement was made detailing the latest changes to the Premier League match schedule, due to the choice of live PL TV games to be shown in the UK in November 2021.

Two Newcastle games were chosen, away to Arsenal and Brighton.

Frank McAvennie not able to believe that nobody is taking the fight to the Premier League and broadcasters on behalf of the Newcastle fans.

It would certainly appear that as always, Mike Ashley and his minions haven’t made any effort to protest on behalf of the club’s hardcore fans.

With work on the tracks already leading to longer journey times, Newcastle fans will find it extra difficult to make the new 12.30pm kick-off time at Arsenal on Saturday 6 November.

Even worse, by moving Brighton away to 5.30pm on Saturday 27 November, it has made it impossible to get back to Newcastle by train after the game.

Frank McAvennie compares the Newcastle frustrations to those in Scottish football surrounding Aberdeen and Inverness.

However, he accepts it is ‘another level what they are doing at Newcastle’ when it comes to inconveniencing NUFC fans.

Looking at travel distances from the likes of Edinburgh and Glasgow to Inverness and Aberdeen, the longest of those is less than a 340 mile round trip.

Whilst for Newcastle fans it is around a 550 mile round trip to Arsenal and 650 miles to Brighton and back!

Frank McAvennie speaking to Football Insider:

“Someone needs to tell these TV companies that they can’t do this, it’s unfair.

“The games end late and night and they won’t be able to get home.

“I don’t get it.

“It’s common sense that the league and the TV contracts could sort that out.

“It happens in Scotland with Aberdeen and Inverness but that’s another level what they are doing to Newcastle.”

Newcastle United official announcement – 22 September 2021:

‘Two of Newcastle United’s Premier League games in November have been selected for live television broadcast.

The Magpies’ long trip to Brighton & Hove Albion will be shown live on BT Sport. The date of Saturday, 6th November remains unchanged but kick-off is pushed back to 5.30pm (GMT) as a result.

The match between Manchester United and Manchester City on the same day will be broadcast live on Sky Sports with a 12.30pm (GMT) kick-off. This change from the usual broadcast schedule has been agreed in conjunction with the police, clubs and broadcasters.

And BT Sport will also broadcast the Magpies’ away game at Arsenal. That match also remains on its original date – Saturday, 27th November – but kick-off has been brought forward to 12.30pm (GMT).

The home game against Brentford on Saturday, 20th November will not be televised live in the UK and will kick off at 3pm (GMT).’
