Chelsea’s batch of talented youngsters have been told that they only have this pre-season to impress enough to force themselves into first team reckoning.
The Blues are in the midst of a two-window transfer ban which has forced the club into looking at some of their more prodigious youth products.
The likes of Mason Mount, Jamie Cumming, Fikayo Tomori, Kasey Palmer and Tammy Abraham are all expected to play a role in the senior squad this coming season.
But Lampard has insisted that those youngsters will only have the next few weeks to really show off their talents.
“Everybody knows I have a keen eye for the younger players in the academy,” Lampard said.
“We have a batch of them fighting to get into the first team.
“To be absolutely clear, they now have to make the difference. It’s a road that is given to them and now they have to be the ones that play well enough to get into the team.
“I don’t care about age, I care about performance and how people train and play. Now with the squad it is up to those players to show what they can do.”
Chelsea are currently in Japan to take on Kawasaki Frontale and then Barcelona.
