Chelsea face Lille in the next round of the Champions League, and while that was perhaps the easiest draw they could have got, there is a downside to playing the French side.

New regulations coming in in France mean that unvaccinated players won’t be able to go and play in the away leg of that tie.

It’s uncertain how exactly this will play out, and there are still a few weeks to go, but as it stands it could be possible that UEFA make Lille play their home game in a neutral venue.

On the other hand, it doesn’t seem impossible that they just tell Chelsea to suck it up and play without their unvaccinated squad members.

It’s not clear how many Chelsea players are actually unvaccinated, but given what we know about players in the Premier League overall, one would imagine there are at least a couple in the squad.
