Exclusive names four wingers Chelsea are pushing for – but there’s major obstacles to each

Chelsea have so many wingers and attacking midfielders on their books that they’ve been able to play 2 or 3 of them in every game, despite the club’s endless injuries.

But the problem is that none of them are really convincing as long term options, beyond Cole Palmer.

Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke have played well a handful of times each, and it’s the same story with Raheem Sterling. Chelsea fans are desperate to see more dangerous and more consistent players in those positions, but unless we sell some of those already in place, that’s going to be hard to arrange.

Our writer Simon Phillips’ exclusive piece on Substack from earlier today reveals four targets the club have should any movement be made.

First up is Michael Olise. We didn’t manage to sign him last summer, but clearly he’s still an option and is being pushed for by Joe Shields, according to Phillips.

Then there’s Pedro Neto of Wolves. Again, he’s a talented player but Wolves have him on a long contact, and as Phillips writes, he’s valued at £50m and would cost a lot more in reality.

Jarrod Bowen is also thrown in as an option, but he’s on an even longer contract than Neto and West Ham are going to resist any attempts to let their key man go to a rival.

Finally Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao is a non-Premier League name that will get fans very excited. He has a release clause, but given the level of club likely to be bidding for him this summer, we’re not sure coming to scratch around in mid table with Chelsea is likely to tempt him.

So overall, there are good targets out there, but a) we can’t afford them b) we’ve got too many wingers already and c) they might not want to join us.

Some fans are going to have to accept these harsh realities this summer.
