France trained at the Vélodrome on Monday night ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against Chile, which hinted at Les Bleus’ starting XI.

Despite admitting that William Saliba was having a strong season at club level, the Arsenal defender was at the receiving end of some criticism from Didier Deschamps on Monday. The manager said that Saliba “did some things that [he] doesn’t like so much”, adding that it “hasn’t necessarily gone well” when he has pulled on the France shirt.

However, Saliba is now expected to earn his 13th France cap against Chile. He was part of the first XI during Monday’s training session. Returning from injury, Mike Maignan will also return to the starting XI, replacing Brice Samba, who started in the 2-0 loss against Germany on Saturday. Aurélien Tchouaméni and Kylian Mbappé are the only players expected to keep their place in the side from that defeat at the weekend.

France likely lineup v Chile

Mike Maignan; Théo Hernandez, Ibrahima Konaté, William Saliba, Jonathan Clauss; Youssouf Fofana, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga; Kylian Mbappé, Olivier Giroud, Randal Kolo Muani.
