France Football name controversial all-time Ballon d'Or dream team

With no Ballon d’Or in 2020 due to that pesky pandemic, France Football have instead decided to name the greatest XI of all-time.
Chosen by a jury of 140 journalists (our invitation must have got lost in the post) the dream team was revealed on Monday, and it’s bound to raise a few eyebrows.
Here it is in full …
The legendary former Soviet Union and Dynamo Moscow goalkeeper Lev Yashin got the nod here, and you’ll hear no complaints from us about that.
The team lines up with a three-man backline of Cafu, Franz Beckenbauer and Paolo Maldini.
Fair enough.
This is where it starts to get a little weird.
They’ve named Xavi and Lothar Matthäus as defensive midfielders, and Diego Maradona and Pele as attacking midfielders.
They were all incredible players, of course, we’re just not sure about their positioning.
It’s hard to disagree with that forward line (although Thierry Henry might well try) and it features the only two still-active players in Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
So there we have it. The greatest XI of all-time. Isn’t that nice?
