Foundation launches programme to target female empowerment | OneFootball

Go Ahead to feature in schools throughout city.

The Leeds United Foundation are pleased to announce the launch of a brand-new programme that is directed at young females and encouraging them to improve their confidence in participating in sport.

The girls empowerment through football programme will help to respond to the need for more female engagement in sport, and there will be a real focus on those in Year 10 and 11, with a target of 20 schools to be engaged with per year along with a minimum of 1,200 participants across two years.

Each school that engages with the club's official charity through this programme will receive a football activity programme session each week (one hour duration) for an entire school year and the main aim will be encouraging females to become healthier and to work on their levels of confidence to ensure they can participate in sports if they want to.

The programme will initially target six priority areas within Leeds that have high indices of deprivation and will offer equal opportunities to any females that would like to take part. The hope is that this programme will help to break down a number of barriers that may be hindering participation, especially as it will be free for the participants to get involved.

Go Ahead will support teachers as well as pupils, with school staff able to be upskilled by the Leeds United Foundation coaching team on delivery, skills improvement and knowledge ensuring the programme will be sustainable in the long-term.

In addition, participants will also become part of the Foundation’s community social action volunteering programme, giving them the chance to attend referee and coaching courses helping to increase their own knowledge and experiences further.
