On Monday, Luis de la Fuente will announce his 26-man Spain squad for Euro 2024. Many players will be in contention for a place, and there is still plenty of uncertainty which will need to be clarified.
One player that fancies their chances of going to Germany is Ayoze Perez. The 30-year-old has had a very good end-of-season spell with Real Betis, and would be a man in form heading into the European Championship. Speaking after the goalless draw with Real Madrid on Saturday, he explained that he believes he has done enough to be called up – quotes via Marca.
“Yes, I’m excited, of course I am. The truth is that there is something there, let’s call it a hunch, that tells me that it is possible to be among the elect. We’ll see on Monday what the coach decides. Obviously, I’m very happy and very confident with the final stretch I did and how I finished. We’ll see, we’ll see if I’m part of the selected.”
There is certainly space for Ayoze to be called up by de la Fuente, as Spain’s forward options are not nailed-on. It will be known in the next 24 hours whether he is part of the squad or not.
