Fortuna Sittard coach Danny Buijs has been acquitted by the KNVB’s independent disciplinary committee for comments made against referee Ingmar Oostrom.
After a frustrating 3-0 home defeat to Sparta Rotterdam, Buijs initially received a settlement proposal for a one-match ban from the prosecutor of professional football, following his statements about the referee, which were said to be in conflict with the KNVB Code of Conduct. Fortuna could not agree to this and did not accept the proposal.
The disciplinary committee concluded that there was no reason to punish Buijs for the statements:
“The independent disciplinary committee for professional football acquits Buijs of the charge against him, namely that he harmed the interests of the professional football section of the KNVB or football in general.
“Buijs was said to have verbally discredited the referee during an interview with ESPN after the match on the 29th of March 2025. However, based on the contents of the file and the hearing, the disciplinary committee weren’t convinced that the words used by Buijs led to a conviction for the charges against him.”
Thus, the manager will be in the dugout for his side’s home clash with Feyenoord tomorrow afternoon on Milaanstraat.
