Former Morocco international Nordin Amrabat wants to return to the Netherlands this summer, according to Voetbal International. The 36-year-old currently plays in the Greek Super for AEK Athens, where he’s scored eight goals in 23 appearances this season. But with his contract coming to an end this summer, the former Watford, Galatasaray and PSV player wants to return to the Netherlands.
Amrabat was born in the Dutch city of Naarden. He previously played in the Netherlands for Almere City, VVV-Venlo and PSV. Having spent the last 12 years away from the Eredivisie, the 64-time Morocco international wants to return to a Dutch club. Several sides have already spoken to the winger about a potential transfer. Speaking to VI, Amrabat said ‘I have sat down with two clubs and two other clubs have called me. So I will sit down with each side for a while. I also like to hear the plan. I am waiting to see my options.’
Before playing for AEK Athens, Amrabat played for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. He played 100 times for the club before leaving in 2021. In January Al-Nassr approached him over a possible return as they needed ‘supplies for Cristiano Ronaldo’. But, in Amrabat’s words ‘AEK Athens told me they were going for the double and they really needed me. I could have played in the team with Ronaldo, but I wasn’t allowed.’ Amrabat won this seasons Greek double, and now he’s hoping for a move back to the Eredivisie after his contract expires at the end of this month.
