Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul is on the brink of a transfer to Premier League debutants Luton Town, according to talkSPORT.

Following Luton’s remarkable promotion to the top tier of English football, they are keen on reinforcing their squad to avoid the drop.

The Dutch shot-stopper is reportedly undergoing a medical evaluation today before sealing the deal with the Hatters. Krul will be Luton’s tenth addition this summer.

The 35-year-old is in the final year of his contract with Norwich City in the Championship.

His tenure at the Canaries saw him make 17 appearances in various competitions during the 2022/23 season, conceding 19 goals and keeping five clean sheets.

However, Krul’s fortunes took an unexpected turn, as he was replaced as Norwich’s primary custodian by Scottish international Angus Gunn.

Despite starting the season as the first-choice goalkeeper, Krul was gradually relegated to a bench role.

The seasoned goalkeeper has notched an impressive 169 appearances for Norwich since his transfer from Newcastle United in 2018.

His vast experience and leadership qualities will inject fresh vigour into Luton’s backline, offering stability and wisdom to the newly promoted side.

This move follows Luton’s earlier attempt to secure ex-Norwich keeper John Ruddy, which was ultimately thwarted as he remained between the sticks for Birmingham City in their victory over Leeds United.

Luton recently completed the £2.5 million signing of Thomas Kaminski from Blackburn Rovers as they try to assemble a formidable squad capable of thriving in the Premier League.

They started their campaign with a 4-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion but have a chance to redeem themselves when they face Chelsea next week.
