Leeds United have reached an agreement in principle to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff this summer, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
Leeds want quality and experience in the middle of the park as the Elland Road club prepares for life back in the English top-flight, and the 27-year-old Magpies star fits the bill having played 171 Premier League appearances over the past seven years.
The Whites tabled their third bid for Longstaff last month, which was worth £10 million plus £2m in add-ons and it appears they have become successful in their bid to land him.
Leeds have reached personal terms with the Newcastle academy graduate, and he is now expected to join manager Daniel Farke and his team at the West Yorkshire club in the coming days.
They have already signed Lukas Nmecha and Sebastiaan Bornauw from Wolfsburg, Jaka Bijol from Udinese, Gabriel Gudmundsson from Lille and Louis Enahoro-Marcus from Liverpool, and Longstaff could be next.
Leeds are already planning a medical for the Magpies midfielder, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, and his addition will come in handy as they look to impress and establish themselves as a mainstay in the Premier League following promotion from the Championship.
Longstaff has ten Premier League goals and nine assists and a total of 16 goals and 11 assists in 214 appearances for Newcastle, and while he has largely played as a central midfielder, his defensive and attacking abilities make him capable of featuring in a box-to-box role.
He started 12 of the 32 games he featured in last term having fallen down the pecking order of manager Eddie Howe, but he remains a top midfielder capable of improving the Leeds midfield, and adding him to the team could come in handy.
He is set to become their sixth summer signing, but more quality additions are expected in the coming weeks as Farke looks to prove he has what it takes to impress in the top-flight after how things went at Norwich City.
