Former Manchester United goalkeeper Kie Plumley has joined Hartley Wintney in the Isthmian League South Central Division.

The 21 year was a surprise addition to United’s squad last season when he was registered as an under-21 player.

He came up through the ranks at Oxford United, before being released last summer.

Plumley had spells at non-league football sides West-Super Mare and Beaconsfield before making the move to United.

Nonetheless, after only one year he was released by the club this summer alongside significantly more famous names like Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane.

Website thisisOxfordshire reports that “former Oxford United youngster Kie Plumley has found a new club following his exit from Manchester United this summer.”

“Plumley, who didn’t make a first team appearance for either club, has now joined up with Hampshire side Hartley Wintney in the Isthmian League South Central Division, the eighth tier of English football.”

The keeper has already got stuck into life at his new club as he made his debut in a 2-1 win at home against East Grinstead Town in the FA Trophy first qualifying round.

Plumley endured a tough season last year where he only played one minute for the youth team, coming on in the last minute in a 3-2 win over Newcastle United under 21s last December.

United have welcomed numerous new keepers to the club in the last few months with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir being bought for the first team and Hubert Graczyk joining the under 21s side after leaving Arsenal on a free.

Plumley may see the season as a wasted one in his career as he didn’t get any real time on the pitch but he could also view it as a valuable chance to train at one of the biggest clubs in the world, something that not many people ever get to experience.

With talented youth keepers like Radek Vitek, who is on loan at BW Linz and Elyh Harrison, currently on loan at Chester, there is serious competition to break through at the club, especially in the keeping department.
