Over the last week Barcelona’s interest in bringing back Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain has become public knowledge. The Dutch playmaker has spent this season on loan at RB Leipzig, but looks set to leave PSG again this summer either on loan or on a permanent transfer, with Barcelona pursuing the former.

Matteo Moretto revealed to Football España that Simons could be an alternative to Nico Williams and Dani Olmo to strengthen the front three at Barcelona, and now MD say that Simons will do all in his power to end up there this summer.

One of the key factors could be former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, who did not try to keep Simons in the PSG squad last summer. When asked about the 21-year-old on Saturday, the Asturian had the following response.

“My rule is not to talk about players who are not at the club right now. He is out, he is a player on loan. I maintain my position.”

His lack of conviction on Simons’ future could be a factor in the player seeking a move again this summer.

Simons has scored nine times for RB Leipzig this season, and given 15 assists, averaging better than a goal contribution every two games. His trajectory continues to rise, even if PSG do not appear desperate to hold onto him. He is due to meet with the French giants to discuss his future in the coming weeks, but the attraction of bringing in a talent on a cheap loan deal is clear for Barcelona.
