Kevin De Bruyne’s former manager Dieter Hecking believes that the Belgian is ready to assume full captain’s responsibilities at Manchester City.
With Vincent Kompany leaving last season and David Silva set to leave at the conclusion of the season, Manchester City will need to decide on a permanent captain next season.
While Fernandinho has served as vice-captain this season, the Brazilian has just turned 35 years old and is believed to have one more season left at the Etihad.
“We tried to help and encourage him to take a leading role [at Wolfsburg],” Hecking told MEN Sport.
“That’s why I was very happy to see Kevin wearing the captain’s armband at Manchester City in the last games.
“He seems to be taking on more responsibility there as well.”
De Bruyne finished 14th in the 2019 Ballon d’Or rankings and has contributed nine goals and a stunning 19 assists in 35 games this season.
