Former Manchester United player Timothy Fosu-Mensah is going to miss out on a Bundesliga winners medal despite Bayer Leverkusen romping to an emphatic league triumph.

The versatile Dutchman hasn’t played a minute of football this season and therefore will not be eligible for a personal honour.

Leverkusen broke Bayern Munich’s 11 year stranglehold on the competition at the weekend with a 5-0 win against Werder Bremen, securing the title in fitting style.

Fosu-Mensah left United for Leverkusen in 2021 but has suffered an injury-plagued spell in Germany which spilled into this campaign.

Jeremie Frimpong has emerged as one of the most sought after right-backs in Europe and made Fosu-Mensah’s preferred position his own, further diminishing his chances to get minutes.

As reported by the Daily Star, Fosu-Mensah has been named in Xabi Alonso’s squad on just seven occasions this year and remained an unused substitute each time.

Unfortunately for Timothy, only players who have featured in five or more matches are eligible to take home a winners’ medal in Germany.

However, the 26-year-old was seen joining in the weekend celebrations with his teammates and looked delighted to be part of the group that has made history for the club.

Furthermore, Leverkusen are still very much alive in the German Cup and Europa League and are favourites to secure an incredible Treble.

Fosu-Mensah will miss out on any additional trophies that Leverkusen pick up from here, rendering the end of season celebrations somewhat bittersweet for the former United man.

It’s an unfortunate situation for the Dutchman, who will hope for an injury free campaign next year and that Leverkusen can repeat their incredible level of performance once more.

Fosu-Mensah played 30 times for United from 2016 to 2020 before his €1.70 million move three years ago.
