Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter turns down Lyon job | OneFootball

Graham Potter has rejected the chance to manage French Ligue 1 club Lyon, according to the Telegraph.

The former Chelsea boss reportedly met with Lyon owner John Textor to discuss joining the club, with current manager Laurent Blanc walking a tightrope.

Lyon have lost three of their first four league games, sparking speculation about Blanc’s future.

However, Potter will not be the man to rescue Lyon after turning down the job. The 48-year-old remains out of work following his sacking at Chelsea.

When the Blues sacked Thomas Tuchel last season, they paid a world-record sum to Brighton & Hove Albion to appoint Potter for five years.

However, his seven months with the club were torrid as Chelsea fell into the bottom half of the table and crashed out of the Champions League and domestic cups.

Chelsea sacked him in April, and he has since been without a job despite offers from Leicester City and now Lyon.

Crystal Palace considered a move for Potter as they searched for a new manager to replace Roy Hodgson towards the end of last season, but the veteran stayed on.

Lyon will have to look to other managers, and there are already talks about a move for LOSC Lille manager Paulo Fonseca, who has impressed in France.

Julen Lopetegui has emerged as another contender for the job after leaving his post at Wolverhampton Wanderers before the current season began.

It is unclear what Potter’s next move will be after rejecting all the offers on the table.

There are rumours he is a candidate to replace Michael Beale at Rangers following their poor start to the Scottish Premiership season.

Rangers are fourth in the Scottish Premiership and already playing catch-up to Celtic. A 1-0 defeat to the Bhoys in the Old Firm derby on Sunday did not help the situation.
