Former Brentford goalkeeper set to join Kortrijk from Viking

Sacha Tavolieri is reporting that former Brentford goalkeeper Patrik Gunnarsson is set to join Kortrijk in the coming days. The Icelandic shot stopper is set to join the Belgian club from Stavanger based Viking in Norway. The 23-year-old will certainly be someone that head coach Freyr Alexandersson is familiar with given the shared nationality between the two. It appears that Gunnarsson will become the sides number one over Lucas Pirard.

Gunnarsson began his career with Breidablik in his native Iceland before joining Brentford in 2018. He only made one appearance for the side during his time there, spending time on loan at Southend, Silkeborg, Viborg FF and finally Viking. After a loan spell with Viking during the 2021 Eliteserien season, the clubs agreed a full transfer of Gunnarsson to Norway. The Icelandic international has gone on to make 90 appearances for the club, keeping 23 clean sheets.

With the arrival of Gunnarsson, it appears likely that Tom Vandenberghe will move on.
