Former Borussia Dortmund U23s striker Bradley Fink is leaving FC Basel to join English third-tier side Wycombe Wanderers FC. The transfer was officially confirmed on Thursday.
Fink, who holds both Swiss and British citizenship, is moving to the League One club, which finished just outside the promotion places in the 2024/25 season. The 22-year-old striker joins from Basel, where he has played since 2022, signing a four-year contract.
During his time with Basel, he made 57 competitive appearances, scoring eight goals. The nine-time Swiss U21 international spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Grasshoppers Zurich, where he made just 23 Super League appearances before returning to the 14-time Swiss champions.
Fink trained in the youth academy of FC Luzern, where he scored 21 goals in 40 games, before joining Borussia Dortmund’s youth academy in 2019. There, he played for the U17 and U19 teams, as well as for the BVB II, the U23 team that plays in the 3. Liga, the third tier of German football.
With BVB, the towering 1.92m centre-forward was marked up for potential first-team success and trained with the first team under Edin Terzic.
The player, who qualifies for England through his mother, Yvonne, who is from Liverpool, made his debut for Die Amas against Waldhof Mannheim in July 2022. His debut goal, one of three for Dortmund’s second team, came at Wehen Wiesbaden in February of the same season.
Notching up 31 scoring points, including 26 goals, Fink was highly praised during his two seasons with Dortmund’s U19 team in the U19 Bundesliga-West between 2019 and 2021. In season 21/22, the side, coached by former Hearts striker Mike Tullberg, won both the Liga Pokal, League cup, and U19 DFB Pokal. His progress, however, was hampered by the arrivals of Julian Rijkhoff from Ajax and the loan signing of Justin Djinmah from Werder Bremen.
The young striker is embarking on a fresh start to establish himself in senior football, this time in the English game. The club, known as the Chairboys, finished in 5th last season, agonisingly just three points off the third promotion place, which went to Stockport County. Wycombe have the ambition to return to the Championship, which they last played in in 2021.
Leading investor, Kazakh businessman Mikheil Lomtadze, who bought the club earlier in the 24/25 season, has made Fink Wycombe’s sixth signing of the transfer window, following the deals for attacking midfielder James Tilley, defender Dan Casey, midfielder Caolan Boyd-Munce, wing-back Armando Junior Quitirna, and defensive all-rounder Taylor Allen.
Wycombe manager Mike Dodd underlined the value of the signing for the Buckinghamshire club: “I think the fans will be excited to see us bring someone of Bradley’s pedigree to the club, and his experience shows he could be a hugely influential player for us in the promotion push.”
Fink leaves FC Basel, who are managed by former Borussia Dortmund player Alex Frei, as champions — their first title win since 2017.
