Frank Leboeuf urges Chelsea told to sign Paris Saint Germain star Kylian Mbappe

Speaking on ESPN FC’s Extra Time (h/t football.london), ex-Chelsea player Frank Lebouef has urged his former club to sign Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe in the summer transfer window, when the player becomes a free agent.

The Blues are struggling in front of goal this season, with forwards Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner looking like they’ve lost their goalscoring instincts and suffering a massive dip in form. The Blues are winless in the Premier League since Boxing Day and have drawn five of their last seven top-flight games.

With the recent loss against table-toppers Manchester City last weekend, Chelsea has slipped up in the title race and are in all likelihood too far behind to compete. Leboeuf believes that the Blues hierarchy has to go after Mbappe in the summer, as he would be the one attacking signing that would help close the gap to Man City.

“Kylian Mbappe. The guy is free next summer and when I see the players up front, obviously Kylian Mbappe would make a huge difference for Chelsea, yeah.”

It seems to be public knowledge in the footballing world that Real Madrid are preparing an ambitious contract to snap up Mbappe in the summer once the Frenchman sees out his current deal at the Parc des Princes. Despite this, Chelsea have been urged to go ahead and play spoilsport in an attempt to lure the 23-year-old to Stamford Bridge instead.

Blues coach Thomas Tuchel recently lamented his side’s poor attacking form, saying that Chelsea were not creating enough chances and opportunities in games to secure wins comfortably. In Mbappe, the German could have a player who is ruthless in attack and can emerge as a consistent match-winner for years to come.

Lebouf seems to think that Chelsea could massively benefit from Mbappe’s quality, and be the talisman for the Blues in years to come, given his young age as well. The numbers that the France international has racked up in his relatively short career is bonkers, and that bodes well for Tuchel’s side who need a regular supplier of goals.

Given Tuchel’s prior relationship with the player during his time at PSG, there could be an outside chance for us to make a move for Mbappe. Despite not being heavily linked with a move for the Frenchman at the moment, we can stay ambitious and hope that Tuchel exerts some of his influence to snap him up.

PSG seem resigned to the fact that they could lose their superstar for free next summer. The French giants paid an incredible amount to sign him from rivals AS Monaco but that marriage in the French capital appears to be nearing its end.

It is interesting that Mbappe is looking for a move away from France, given that PSG boasts of incredible attacking talents like Lionel Messi and Neymar. One would assume that any player would jump at the prospect of playing alongside modern greats like the PSG attacking duo, so it is strange that a young player like Mbappe would set their sights elsewhere.

Perhaps it is to establish himself at a club where he knows that he will be the key focus of attack and not play under anyone else’s shadow. If so, Chelsea boasts of a stadium that will have adoring fans sing his name every week, a world-class manager he has prior experience working with, and the chance to be the team’s focal point in attack.
