Pablo Torre’s move from Barcelona to Mallorca has added extra spice to the opening weekend of the 2025/26 La Liga season.

As fate would have it, the 22-year-old midfielder will face his former club in his very first match for Mallorca.

And while he remains respectful towards Barça, there is no doubt he will be motivated to show why he deserved more opportunities at Camp Nou.

The transfer was finalised with a smart clause in Barcelona’s favour — a buy-back option. This means if Torre shines in Mallorca, the Catalan giants can bring him back in the future.

According to SPORT, the club still believes in his talent but simply could not offer him the minutes he needed right now.

Why did he struggle?

Torre’s lack of chances had little to do with his ability or commitment. The main issue was the fierce competition in his position.

At Barcelona, the attacking midfield spots were locked down by Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez, while deeper roles in midfield were occupied by world-class names like Pedri and Frenkie de Jong.

Out wide, players such as Lamine Yamal and Raphinha left little room for experimentation.

Despite limited minutes, Torre impressed when called upon. He even shared his frustration directly with Flick in a meeting, explaining that he felt he had earned more opportunities. However, the discussion did not change his situation.

No hard feelings

Still, there is no bitterness. Torre has spoken warmly about his time at Barcelona, highlighting the friendships he made and the positive memories he will carry with him.

For now, his focus shifts to Mallorca, where regular first-team football awaits — and his first chance to prove a point comes against the very team that let him go.

With the buy-back option in place, Barcelona will be watching closely. If Torre’s talent shines in Mallorca, this chapter may not be the last in his story with the Catalan club.
