Go Ahead Eagles have announced that Bobby Adekanye has signed a one-year contract extension with the club, valid until mid-2025 with the option of an additional year. The former Barcelona, Liverpool and Lazio winger experienced a successful campaign with the Eredivisie club last season. Now, the 24-year-old has extended his stay in Deventer.

Bobby Adekanye has had an extraordinary career so far. The former Netherlands youth international kicked things off in Ajax’s youth academy, before joining Barcelona in 2011. Adekanye was forced to leave the Spanish side in 2015 after the club were found to have broken FIFA’s rules on signing underage players. Adekanye was one of six youth players barred from playing for Barcelona by FIFA.

A move to Liverpool followed for the Nigerian-born right winger. He featured 23 times for their U23s before securing a permanent move to Lazio. During the 19/20 campaign, Adekanye featured 11 times in Serie A and three times in the Europa League. Between 2020 and 2022, Adekanye experienced spells with Cádiz, ADO Den Haag and Crotone, before finding a permanent place to play with Go Ahead Eagles.

After a successful first season, where scored six goals and provided four assists in 31 appearances, Bobby Adekanye has signed a new deal. Speaking to the club website, the talented winger said ‘I am grateful to Go Ahead Eagles for the trust the club has given me from day one and for every step I have been able to take. I want to repay that trust. I not only feel at home at the club, but also when I walk through Deventer. After a good season in the Eredivisie, many players have stayed. I see a lot of potential to grow further with this team and I would like to be part of the ambitions of the club. The main goal is first of all to keep the club in the Eredivisie again this season, because that is where Go Ahead Eagles belongs. With goals, assists and actions I want to help the team every game and let the supporters enjoy themselves.’
