Midfielder Donny van de Beek will leave Manchester United to join La Liga outfit Girona, according to Fabrizio Romano.

A permanent transfer has been agreed between the two clubs for an initial fee of €500,000.

The deal is structured with achievable add-ons that could see the fee rise to €4-5m. Performance-based incentives could push the total value as high as €15m.

Van de Beek has signed a four-year contract with Girona, with Man United securing a sell-on clause in the transfer.

The player announced his departure on Instagram: “Dear Manchester United family,” he wrote. “Today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end.

“I want to thank you all for your support throughout the years. From the moment we arrived at Manchester United, we felt extremely welcome, and we are grateful for that.

“Thank you to everyone at the club for making us feel at home. A special thanks to all the fans that made these years unforgettable.

“Besides the football, the birth of our two children here ensures that Manchester will always have a special place in our hearts. Good luck to everybody – we will meet again.”

The move ends a frustrating spell for the 27-year-old at Old Trafford.

Signed in September 2020 with a big reputation earned under current United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, the Dutch midfielder struggled to find regular playing time.

He made just 19 appearances in the 2020/21 Premier League season, often finding himself on the fringes.

Van de Beek joined Everton on loan in the 2021/22 season. However, a thigh injury hampered his progress, restricting him to just seven appearances.

The arrival of Ten Hag at United initially sparked hope for a revival, but Van de Beek once again failed to crack the first team.

A loan to Eintracht Frankfurt was unsuccessful, as he made only eight Bundesliga appearances for Die Adler.

This transfer offers Van de Beek a fresh start in La Liga. Girona will hope the Dutchman can rediscover the form that convinced United to sign him back in 2020.
