Ruben Amorim has sent a strong message to Manchester United number one Andre Onana.

Amorim left Onana out of the matchday squad to face Arsenal on Sunday. The Cameroon international was also not included in United’s squad for the final game of last season against Aston Villa.

His exclusion against Villa was due to his inconsistent performances. This time, however, Onana was overlooked because of fitness concerns.

Altay Bayındır was given the opportunity to impress against Arsenal, but the Turkey international’s blunder early in the match gifted the visitors the match-winning goal.

Both goalkeepers have proven to be underwhelming signings for United, and Amorim is reportedly keen to shake up the goalkeeping department before the window shuts.

Amorim shows exit door to Onana

According to Fichajes, Amorim has made it clear to Onana that he is “no longer part of his plans” at Old Trafford. The relationship between the United head coach and the side’s number one has “reached a turning point.”

The ex-Inter Milan star wants to stay at United and fight for his place. However, Amorim has “decided to act decisively.”

The Portuguese tactician wants to sign a goalkeeper who fits into his system and instills confidence in the United backline.

Amorim identifies Onana alternatives

The Spanish outlet add that Amorim has already earmarked two possible candidates to replace Onana between the sticks.

First on his list is Emiliano Martínez. The Argentina international bid farewell to Villa fans last season. However, he is yet to find a new club.

United tried to sign him on loan earlier in the window, but Villa turned down their offer. The Lions value Martínez at around £40 million.

Royal Antwerp shot-stopper Senne Lammens is also highly rated by Amorim. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Belgian talent has “given the green light” to a move to United.

The Mancunians would have to act quickly, though, as Inter are thought to be pushing to sign Lammens.
