Fulham star Harry Wilson is a solid Premier League player these days, and his five goal contributions in the top flight last campaign helped the West London outfit finish 10th, just one season after they won promotion from the Championship.

The ace started his career at Liverpool, and had loan spells at Crewe Alexandra, Hull City and Derby County before signing for Fulham on a permanent basis in 2021 for a fee of £12m.

Before becoming a Premier League star with the Cottagers, the Wales international was a very dangerous player at Championship level, which he demonstrated during the 2021/22 campaign.

Aleksandar Mitrovic's ridiculous return of 43 goals and seven assists which spearheaded Fulham to the 2021/22 second tier title may be more memorable, but Wilson should also be given a great amount of credit for his impressive tally of 10 goals and 19 assists in the Championship that season.

The winger is fondly remembered for his stint at Derby during the 2018/19 season, when he scored 16 goals and created four assists as the Rams reached the Championship play-off final but fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.

However, it was during a previous loan spell with Hull that Wilson really announced himself at Championship level, when he was aged just 20.

Wilson's time with the Tigers

The Welshman joined the Tigers in January 2018, and hit the ground running with seven goals and three assists in just 13 Championship outings with the Yorkshire outfit.

Hull finished 18th in the Championship table that season, so a young Wilson demonstrated his ability to produce the goods, even when playing for a struggling side.

The Tigers ended the 2017/18 season just eight points clear of the relegation zone, so the MKM Stadium faithful will be thankful for Wilson's impressive efforts that season, as without him, they could have been in serious trouble.

From Wilson's point of view, his spell in Yorkshire gave him the confidence and the platform to really push on, and he did just that as he helped guide Derby, then managed by Frank Lampard, to the Championship play-off final in 2019.

The winger's goal contributions for the Rams during the 2018/19 season saw the Pride Park outfit secure a top-six spot under Lampard's stewardship.

Meanwhile, the Tigers, who no longer had the services of Wilson, finished 13th in the Championship that season, 12 points behind the sixth place spot the Rams landed.

The Tigers faithful may not be able to help but wonder what could have been if they retained Wilson for the 2018/19 campaign, especially if he demonstrated the same kind of form as he did in 2017/18 for the Yorkshire side.

But it should always be remembered that Wilson announced himself as a successful player with the Tigers back in 2018, before going on to represent Wales at the Euros in 2020 and the World Cup in 2022, as well as eventually becoming a Premier League star with his current club, Fulham.
