Milan’s head coach search is continuing in full swing and Paulo Fonseca has now reportedly moved into pole position ahead of the summer.

The Rossoneri have been looking around for a new manager for the last few months, having considered a long list of options including Julen Lopetegui, Roberto De Zerbi, Mark van Bommel, Sergio Conceicao and more.

One certainty is that Milan will not move forward with Stefano Pioli, whose five-year spell will come to an end in the summer. The coach, who guided the club to their first Scudetto in a decade back in the 2021-22 term, has lost the faith of all, from the fans to the club’s directors.

Fonseca interests Milan

Page 10 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport and a report from Tuttosport both detail how Fonseca has started to increasingly become the leading candidate to replace Pioli at Milan this summer, with his experience in Italian football and ability to manage multiple competitions proving convincing.

The 51-year-old has overtaken his toughest competition like Marcelo Gallardo and Van Bommel, but he still hasn’t confirmed his future with Lille yet. The Rossoneri will hold another planning meeting after their match with Torino to take stock of the situation.
