Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz has seemingly made his mind up on his future amid interest from Liverpool, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The attacking midfielder is one of the outstanding youngsters in world football right now and has flourished under the guidance of Liverpool managerial target and former Red Xabi Alonso.

The 20-year-old has scored 11 goals and produced 18 assists in 36 appearances for Die Werkself this season, dazzling with his creativity, sharp feet and and graceful dribbling.

As a result of his stellar performances, Wirtz has attracted interest from Europe's elite clubs, with Liverpool among the sides monitoring his situation this summer.

The Leverkusen man would be a good fit at Anfield, but Liverpool would likely need to launch a club record bid to secure the German's services.

However, signing Wirtz will be incredibly difficult if Liverpool choose to pursue the youngster, especially given the latest reports surrounding him.

IS FLORIAN WIRTZ LEAVING BAYER LEVERKUSEN THIS SUMMER?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Wirtz is not guaranteed to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer despite interest from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Bayern Munich, with the journalist even suggesting he looks likely to stay at the BayArena for at least one more season.

"Florian Wirtz has spoken about his future, suggesting that for now his plan is to remain at Bayer Leverkusen, and that’s my understanding as well – his full focus on Leverkusen and on the Euros," Romano tould CaughtOffside.

"There are currently no negotiations and sources close to the player believe the best option is to stay at Leverkusen for one more year, at least. Then never say never in football, but it’s very quiet so far."

Alonso has been strongly linked with taking over from Jurgen Klopp this summer as Liverpool search for the 56-year-old's successor, although Bayern are also incredibly eager to hire the Spanish coach.

If Alonso was to end up at Anfield, then Wirtz could potentially follow him - something confirmed by German journalist Christian Falk last month.

However, if Romano is correct, then Liverpool may need to look elsewhere this summer when bolstering their attacking ranks.
