Now that Russell Martin has left Southampton, he won't be leaving alone. Rumour has it, a flop player could also be heading for the exit door after Southampton were humiliated against Tottenham Hotspur.
Southampton finally bit the bullet and fired Russell Martin at the weekend. The 5-0 hammering against Tottenham Hotspur was the final straw but admittedly, Martin was treading on eggshells for a long time before this.
While we wish Russell Martin all the best in his future endeavours (after all, nobody can deny his likeable personality), it was a decision which had to be made by the owners.
However, there could be a decision which is much easier for the owners to make. It will involve a player heading for the exit door, following Russell Martin on his way out.
According to a report by Give Me Sport, struggling Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana might be the next person to leave Southampton. At the weekend, he managed only 15 minutes of his first start of the season.
For any player, it is humiliating to be removed, even at half-time. So, we can only imagine the shame which Kamaldeen Sulemana must be following, to be withdrawn after only 15 minutes.
Look, we won't overlook the bad performance which the winger put in, however, he wasn't alone in this. It is difficult to point praise at any Saint from last night's awful display.
Kamaldeen has not had a good time since joining Southampton. In fact, there are probably some Southampton supporters who might forget he's even in the squad.
Now, though, he is tipped with moving away from the club in the January transfer window. The GMS report does state there could be European interest in him, with some clubs as big as Roma linked with the signing.
Therefore, this could be a case of Kamaldeen snatching an opportunity while it's still there. We certainly wouldn't blame him for jumping ship, it's not like Southampton are giving him any reason to stay.
The good news is that Southampton parting ways with the winger would actually benefit the club too. Since his wages are reported to be £40,000 per week, it would save the Saints a fortune on their wage bill. This could be reinvested back into the squad in the January transfer window, or at least we hope.
