On Friday afternoon, Flamengo officially announced that they have handed their newest jewel, Matheus França, a new contract.
The 17-year-old’s deal has come with a staggering club-record €100m release clause, which exceeds Lázaro’s previous record of €80m.
The player’s new bond with Flamengo will run until April 2027.
Matheus França has evolved very fast this season and little by little has emerged as one of the most outstanding figures in all of Brazil at his age.
During the U-17 Copa do Brasil, the player has provided 10 goals and nine assists in 11 games – contributing to the attack every 34 minutes he’s been on the pitch.
In fact, during Flamengo’s unbelievably wild 12-6 aggregate victory in the Copa do Brasil semi-final over Palmeiras, he lead the U-17s with a mind-numbing six goals.
Matheus França arrived at Flamengo in 2016 and is currently being treated as one of the 2004 generation’s greatest figures, alongside with Matheus Gonçalves, Victor Hugo and Petterson.
