Barcelona have upped their efforts in identifying and recruiting talents from the South American market of late.

The Catalans recently roped in Argentine forward Lucas Roman and are following his compatriot Gianluca Prestianni. Efforts are being made to sign Vitor Roque from Brazilian club Athletico Paranaense as well.

At the same time, Barcelona have their sights on another young Brazilian prospect in the form of Wesley.

The 19-year-old right-back has emerged as a target for the Blaugrana with the club looking to sign him up on loan for a season with an option to purchase. But, according to SPORT, Wesley’s current club, Flamengo, are not ready to accept Barça’s loan-to-buy offer.

The young right-back recently signed a new contract with Flamengo, extending his stay at the club until the summer of 2025, after impressing for the club’s U-20 side. He is slowly starting to make a name for himself at the first-team level as well.

Barcelona intend to sign him on a season-long loan deal for a small fee and include a non-mandatory purchase clause in the agreement. The idea is for Wesley to become a part of the Barça Atletic team should the deal go through, where he will develop under Rafa Marquez.

However, Flamengo are unwilling to agree to such a proposal and given the Catalans’ Financial Fair Play problems, it would seem that the negotiations might not prove fruitful.

But, the young right-back intends to make the jump to Barcelona and has asked his agents to continue negotiating with Flamengo to convince them to sanction an exit in the winter transfer window.

The first round of talks between Wesley’s entourage and his club in Rio de Janeiro did not see significant progress. Only time will tell if further negotiations are more fruitful and the 19-year-old right-back gets his desired move to Barça Atletic.
