Five Premier League clubs are reportedly threatening to sue Everton for £300 million if they avoid relegation to the Championship this season.

Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City leaves them just a point above the relegation zone.

Their remaining two fixtures against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bournemouth will be crucial in deciding their Premier League fate.

Only Southampton’s relegation to the second tier is confirmed, while the other four teams above are engaged in a dogfight.

However, the Daily Mail claim Everton could face a serious legal battle if they survive.

Southampton, Leicester City, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Burnley feel they are entitled to compensation from the Merseyside club if they are found guilty of breaching spending rules.

The Clarets and Leeds threatened legal action against the Toffees a year ago amid claims they breached Profit and Sustainability rules.

It all came to nothing after the Premier League said the club had complied with the regulations due to the allowances made due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, they were charged in March after their updated accounts showed they made a £313.5m loss for the previous three years.

Everton could face transfer embargoes or points deductions if they are found guilty of breaching the rules.

However, they are unlikely to be too worried as their focus will primarily be on securing survival with just two league games remaining this season.
