Barcelona continued their unbeaten run across all competitions as they secured a critical 2-1 win over Real Betis in La Liga on Wednesday night.

The Catalans have not lost a game in all competitions since the defeat to Bayern Munich in October last year. With the victory against Manuel Pellegrini’s men, they have now gone without a loss in 14 matches, winning 13 of those matches.

Goals from Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski sealed the deal for Barcelona against Betis at Estadio Benito Villamarin last night.

It was an important strike from Raphinha, whose form and consistency have been questioned at various points in his debut season with Barcelona.

Following his goal on Wednesday, no La Liga player has been involved in more goals than Raphinha in 2023 between all competitions (6 – 3 goals, 3 assists), level with Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri (6 goals).

Alejandro Balde was the star of the show for Barcelona against Betis and received plenty of praise from his manager, Xavi.

The 19-year-old got the assist for Raphinha’s goal on the night. Only Jamal Musiala (6) of Bayern Munich has more assists than Balde (4) in Europe’s top five leagues this season among players under the age of 20.

Barcelona have now collected 50 points after their first 19 La Liga matches this season. In four of the five seasons the Blaugrana have won as many points at this stage of the competition, they have gone on to win the title (08/09, 10/11, 12/13, and 17/18), failing to do so in 13/14.

The win against Real Betis also meant that Barcelona have become the first team in La Liga history to defeat the Verdiblancos six times in a row away from home in the competition.

Jules Kounde’s own goal late in the game meant that the Catalan giants could not keep a clean sheet and once again won by just a one-goal margin, after 1-0 victories over Girona, Getafe and Atletico Madrid.

It meant that Barcelona have won four games in a row by a one-goal margin for the first time in their entire history in La Liga.

Following the tricky trip to Betis, Barcelona will have two more challenging assignments against Sevilla and Villarreal up next, before they start their UEFA Europa League campaign against Manchester United.
