First championship group home match on Easter Sunday

No Easter presents for the Violets

Hopefully all Easter eggs will be safely in their recipients' hands in time for a feast of football this Sunday at the Red Bull Arena - as we strive to take three points against FK Austria Vienna.

Given the tight ADMIRAL Bundesliga title race, with SK Sturm Graz lurking behind us, we cannot afford any slip-ups. The omens looks good going into the clash against the Violets of Vienna, with eight clashes in a row being won. We took a 3-0 win at our last meeting with Austria Vienna, as we opened the season in the summer, while last season a 5-0 win against them saw us seal the title.

While our boys took a clear 3-0 win against Austria Klagenfurt last week, the opponents coached by Michael Wimmer were held 2-2 by LASK after an equaliser in the final seconds. While they may have only claimed a point, the Viennese showed that they are never easy to beat and are willing to give their all in the battle for European qualifying spots.

Our injury situation provides an additional challenge this weekend. Some creativity is required in midfield from Matthias Jaissle, in particular, as Maurits Kjaergaard is out and Lucas Gourna-Douath a doubt. It remains to be seen who our coach will opt for if alternatives are required.

With your support behind us, we have every chance of winning our first home match in the championship group. Tickets are available on open sale online in the Ticket Shop as well as at the stadium on match day. All the key info on coming to the stadium can be found here.

Austria Vienna have been doing really well recently. They have a clear idea of football under Michael Wimmer that you can see really easily. They are very brave off the ball, and on the ball they try to play good football. We will need a top performance to take three points. The best teams in the league are in the championship group, and every match will be a close-run thing, with every opponent sure to test us. That will be the case on Sunday too.

Matthias Jaissle

Austria Vienna are very difficult opponents with good players. They have performed very well recently, and it will be a difficult match. They know just what to expect here in Salzburg and that we are a very good team. We need to be fully at if from the start to take a win.
