Fiorentina vs. Roma: Preview & Predicted Lineups

Roma prepare to enter the final stretch of their season when they travel to Firenze to face-off against Fiorentina on Sunday evening.

Both teams will be feeling optimistic before kick-off thanks to midweek victories in Europe—though, they enter the game in drastically different league form. Roma have won five of their last six games in Serie A while the hosts have struggled mightily, winning only twice in their previous nine league games.

Kick-off is scheduled for 20.45 CET on Sunday evening at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Roma

The Giallorossi will be bursting with confidence when they travel to Tuscany thanks to their midweek thrashing of Brighton in the Europa League. The result marked their eighth win in ten games under Daniele De Rossi and extended their winning streak to five games in all competitions.

Despite the hot streak, Roma’s recent results against Fiorentina haven’t been pretty—winners of only one of their last four league meetings. Furthermore, they’ve also dropped their last two games at the Franchi.

It’s suspected De Rossi will only make a couple changes to his team against Fiorentina, potentially resting some of his more overworked players such as Bryan Cristante and Gianluca ManciniEdoardo Bove and Diego Llorente possibly replacing the pair. Nicola Zalewski will also likely be given a starting nod, lining-up in attack with Romelu Lukaku and Paulo Dybala.

Fiorentina

The hosts are also riding high ahead of kick-off thanks to their own midweek victory, as they won late 4-3 over Maccabi Haifa in the Conference League. Antonin Barak’s goal in the 95th minute sealed a wild first leg win for La Viola, who face the Israeli side again next Thursday.

While they’ve proven fierce in Europe, the same can’t be said about Fiorentina’s league performances this season. Vincenzo Italiano’s men have been marred by inconsistency and enter Sunday with just two wins in their last seven Serie A fixtures.

From a selection standpoint, Italiano must deal with the absences of Lucas Beltran due to suspension along with Christian Kouamé and Gaetano Castrovilli. Though, attacker Nico Gonzalez is expected to be fit amidst fears he re-aggravated the serious hamstring injury he suffered in December. Meanwhile, forward Andrea Belotti is favored to start against his former side just six weeks after his departure.
