Ligue 1 club AS Monaco are interested in signing former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea after his fantastic season with Fiorentina.

De Gea left United in the summer of 2023 after 12 years of loyal service, where he cemented his status as one of the best goalkeepers in the club’s history.

The Spaniard made 545 appearances for United, keeping 190 clean sheets – both club records for a goalkeeper.

At Old Trafford, De Gea won the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Europa League and two Carabao Cups. In terms of personal accolades, he amassed two Premier League Golden Glove awards, four Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year awards and four Players’ Player of the Year awards.

De Gea had been without a club for a year following his United exit. He eventually signed for Fiorentina and enjoyed a fantastic 2024/25 season.

He was crucial, helping the club reach the Europa Conference League semis and finish sixth in Serie A. De Gea made 35 top-flight appearances and kept 11 clean sheets in that period.

His performances have seemingly attracted the interest of other clubs. Earlier this month, a report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that AC Milan were keen on signing him.

The 34-year-old’s contract with the Viola expires on June 30 but they’re eager to extend his stay by offering his fresh terms.

Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Monaco have entered the fray for De Gea.

Romano wrote on X, “EXCL: AS Monaco have David De Gea on their shortlist as new goalkeeper, one of their desired targets.”

“Fiorentina are in talks to keep De Gea and extend his contract until June 2028 as a priority.”

Monaco hold an advantage over Fiorentina in the race for De Gea, as they can offer him Champions League football next season. Whether that will be enough to convince the United legend remains to be seen.
