Two key transfer targets for Ruben Amorim and Manchester United are set to sign new deals at Sporting CP in a blow to the United head coach.

The Red Devils are reportedly interested in 25 year old forward Francisco Trincão.

It was even suggested that the club were “determined” to sign him for Amorim back in March.

There have also been reports that Amorim would fancy a reunion with his fellow former player, Pedro Gonçalves.

It was thought the player was high up on the list of potential Bruno Fernandes replacements when it seemed he may have been on his way to Saudi Arabia.

Nonetheless, A Bola report that both options seem very much off the table for the time being.

The Portuguese outlet states, that new deals for the players “are currently under negotiation and are expected to be concluded in the next few days as a priority.”

Both players will see an increase in contract years, salary and status in the squad to fend off interest from other clubs like United.

They are seen as indispensable moving forward and the Portuguese champions firmly believe that the duo will play an even more “decisive” role in the squad in the future.

Trincao will also reportedly be offered a role in the captains’ group at the club, reflecting his growing influence in the group.

It is said that “other players in the squad are on the list to renew, but it is Trincão and Pote who will be announced in the coming weeks.”

Interestingly for United or other potential suitors, it is currently unclear whether the new deals will increase their release clauses or not. Although, a rise in the clause has not been ruled out for either player.
