The FA Cup final victory seems to have brought a wind of change at Old Trafford and Manchester United.

The manager’s future, which looked done and dusted, became a debate-worthy topic all of a sudden while the narratives around certain players completely flipped too.

Chief among them is Sofyan Amrabat, the much-maligned defensive midfielder whose spell at United looked set to end with a whimper.

Instead, he put in a performance of his life in the final, expertly shackling the buzzing Manchester City midfield with guile and tenacity.

This led to questions about whether United should turn his loan deal into a permanent option, a thought that would have been ridiculed just two weeks before the final.

United, of course, are yet to make a decision on who their manager will be next season, let alone the makeup of the playing squad.

It has led to their transfer operations being at a standstill and it seems like Fiorentina, Amrabat’s parent club, are feeling the brunt of it.

Club director Daniele Prade has revealed that he would like to keep Amrabat at Fiorentina but the player wishes to stay in England.

Meanwhile, he hasn’t heard anything from United about this matter, hardly ideal since his loan deal expires at the end of June.

Prade said that Amrabat has “different plans”, and with the player entering the last year of his contract, the club doesn’t have much leverage in negotiations.

In an ideal world, United could try to negotiate a lower price for the Moroccan instead of the reported £21.4 million which is a part of his loan contract.

It would allow United to get a rotational option for cheap, Fiorentina to earn money on a player whose performances over the course of the season clearly don’t merit an outlandish amount, and Amrabat to stay at the club where he finally looked to have found his footing.

It remains to be seen if that happens but at the moment, getting clarity needs to be the first item on United’s agenda for the summer.
