West Ham are on their way to a first European final since 1976 as they secured a 3-1 aggregate win against AZ Alkmaar with a 1-0 win in the Netherlands on a famous night for the club.

Their Europa Conference League final opponent will be Fiorentina, who recovered from a 2-1 first-leg home deficit to progress with a 3-1 win against Basel after extra-time.

Here’s how it went down.

Fiorentina punch their ticket for Prague with a late, late win

Scorers: Amdouni 55′; González 35′, 72′, Barák 120+9′

Fiorentina levelled the tie at 2-2 in the 35th minute when Nicolás González headed home unmarked from a Cristiano Biraghi corner.

Basel went back into the aggregate lead when the hero of the first leg, Zeki Amdouni made it one apiece in the 55th minute with a quite stunning goal that came from a nothing long ball.

González was again the man for La Viola as he banged home a second in the 72nd minute to even the tie up once more. The Argentinian was the quickest to react in the box as extra time loomed large.

The first half of extra-time was nervy as it so often is with penalties seeming the inevitable destination. Luka Jovic came the closest to scoring but Basel’s Marwin Hitz was equal to his efforts.

The game was delayed for over 10 minutes due to a medical situation in the stands, which hopefully will have a positive outcome.

With 128 minutes on the clock, Antonín Barák grabbed Fiorentina’s third after a melee in the box.

Cue wild scenes both on the pitch and in the crowd, as La Viola punched their ticket for Prague.

Fornals strikes late on a famous night for the Irons

Scorers: Fornals 90+4′

AZ Alkmaar huffed and puffed for the entire game but never came too close to levelling the tie. This was in large part due to the spirited and resolute defence of the Irons throughout the 90.

If anything West Ham looked the more likely to score on the counter and eventually did in iniury time when Pablo Fornals scooted clear and finished brilliantly to secure passage to the final.

A famous night for David Moyes, Declan Rice and everyone connected to the club, who now have a mammoth final in Prague to look forward to.
