An organized Denmark quickly gained control of the match with attempts from Martin Braithwaite, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Christian Eriksen falling just short as Finland’s goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký made multiple saves.

Just before half-time, Eriksen required urgent medical attention which resulted in the match being temporarily suspended.

Following confirmation the player was in stable condition, both teams opted to return to the pitch.

In the second half, Denmark maintained control but Joel Pohjanpalo scored Finland’s first-ever goal in a major men’s tournament to make it 1-0.

Højbjerg had an opportunity to level things up from the spot but Hrádecký saved the penalty which let the debutants claim a historic three points.
