Filipe Luís has commended the composure Flamengo team-mate Gabriel Barbosa continues to show from the penalty spot.
Gabigol’s 85th-minute spot kick in Ecuador in midweek secured a 3-2 win for the Rubro-Negro over LDU Quito to continue their 100% start to Copa Libertadores Group G.
And Luís is happy that the Mengão have such a reliable taker on board.
“Few times have I been as sure of a goal as I am when Gabigol is going to hit a penalty,” the former Atlético Madrid left-back said, per Gazeta Esportiva.
“Of course, there will come a time when he will miss, but today he passes this impressive security.
“Calm, cool, read very well, study goalkeepers… He is a guy who keeps growing and evolving and, therefore, he is at the level he is at.”
Flamengo can book their progression in the Copa with a win over Chilean side Unión La Calera in Santiago on Tuesday.
Before that, they have some domestic business to attend to when they take on Volta Redondo in the second leg of their Campeonato Carioca semi-final.
The hosts will start at the Maracanã with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg.
