Premier League side Man Utd will close in on a deal for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund in the next ‘hours’, according to reports in Italy.

The Denmark international has impressed during his first season with the Serie A outfit after joining from Sturm Graz in a €17m deal last summer.

And the potential of the 20-year-old has now seen Man Utd and Paris Saint-Germain take up serious interest in his services with the former leading the way.

Man Utd are still looking to permanently replace Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal international left Old Trafford at the end of November last year.

Wout Weghorst filled the gap temporarily but now Erik ten Hag is keen to bring in a striker on a permanent basis to help take the goalscoring burden away from Marcus Rashford.

And Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera insist that Man Utd ‘has an agreement’ with Hojlund over personal terms with the Dane ‘ever closer to leaving Bergamo’.

Man Utd have agreed to pay him €5m, which is over eight times the amount he is currently on at Atalanta, while another newspaper Eco di Bergamo claims the Red Devils are now on the ‘final squeeze’ to seal a deal.

The Premier League side are set to make a ‘decisive offer’ of €65m plus €5m in bonuses to take the overall package to €70m with Man Utd hoping for ‘white smoke’ by the end of the weekend.

Atalanta, who have found their replacement, and Man Utd have entered the ‘hectic, feverish hours’ of negotiations and Eco di Bergamo explain that the Red Devils have ‘always’ been ‘ahead’ of PSG for Hojlund.

And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Saturday that Hojlund had been left out of the Atalanta squad to play Bournemouth today.

Hojlund, who has six goals in six caps for Denmark, joined the Atalanta squad in flying out to the UK earlier this week ahead of their match against the Cherries.

Romano said: “Confirmed: Højlund doesn’t appear in Atalanta official starting XI today.”

The Italian journalist added in another tweet: “Rasmus Højlund’s contract, agreed last week with Manchester United and no changes. Deal until June 2028, option until June 2029. #MUFC Højlund, only waiting for deal to happen as soon as possible. …Man United and Atalanta are getting closer to the agreement.”
