Speaking to Sky Germany, Felix Magath does not rule out a potential return to Hamburg as manager to replace the now-departed Tim Walter.

When asked if he would return to Hamburg, Magath said: “As I said, you should not rule out anything. Problems should be faced openly. In this respect, I do not exclude anything at the moment.”

Magath is a legendary player at Hamburg having played over 300 times for the club in a period that saw them win the Bundesliga and European Cup. The 70-year-old also had a spell at the club as a manager in the 90s.

As a manager, Magath also has a strong resume having won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich three times as well as most recently with Wolfsburg in 2009. Magath’s most recent job was at Hertha Berlin where he saved the club from relegation at the expense of Hamburg in the 2022 relegation playoff.

Hamburg are currently third in the 2.Bundesliga and five points off of first place, and city rivals, St Pauli. Despite their positioning in the table and the nice football played under Walter, it has not helped them achieve their ultimate goal of promotion.
