Liverpool and Spurs love shopping at Southampton. Man Utd and Chelsea prefer to import from Holland and Spain respectively, while Arsenal keep it in the capital…

Here’s the club every Premier League team has taken most players from since 2000, with figures provided by transfermarkt.

Arsenal: Chelsea – 8 Players signed: Kai Havertz, Jorginho, Petr Cech, David Luiz, Lassana Diarra, Willian, William Gallas, Yossi Benayoun Total spent: £91.6m

The Gunners have already shopped twice at Chelsea this year taking their total to eight. But they’ve spent more at Lille, thanks largely to Nicolas Pepe.

Aston Villa: Tottenham – 8 Players signed: Alan Hutton, Wayne Routledge, Jermaine Jenas, Josh Onomah, Kyle Walker, Simon Dawkins, Öyvind Leonhardsen, David Ginola. Total spent: £6.48m

Villa have taken most players from Spurs but they spent most at Brentford, splurging £52m on three players between 2017 and 2020.

Bournemouth: Southampton – 18 Players signed: Jack Stephens, Shane Long, Artur Boruc, Lee Barnard, Danny Seaborne, Andrew Surman, Matt Mills, Leon Best, Simon Gillett, David McGoldrick, Adam Lallana, Jake Thomson, Ryan Doble, Martin Cranie, ,Alan Blayney, Scott McDonald, Neil Moss, Dani Rodrigues Total spent: £0

All but two of these 17 former Saints were loan deals between the south coast clubs and the other two were freebies. The Cherries like to shop local – Pompey is the club from which they’ve taken the second-highest number of players.

Brentford: Reading – 12 Players signed: Paul Brooker, Alan Bennett, John Halls, Mikkel Andersen, Alex McCarthy, Simon Cox, Nicholas Bignall, Lloyd Owusu, Ben Hamer, John Salako, Ricky Newman, Anthony Rougier Total spent: £0

The Bees have had a dozen players for f*** all off Reading. They have spent most at Freiburg having taken Kevin Schade and Mark Flekken.

Brighton: Fulham – 6 Players signed: David Button, David Stockdale, Paul Brooker, Ross Flitney, Zesh Rehman, Simon Morgan Total spent: £5.25m

The Seagulls have have spent more with 28 clubs but they’ve taken more players from the Cottage than anywhere else.

Burnley: Stoke – 10 Players signed: Nathan Collins, Erik Pieters, Peter Crouch, Phil Bardsley, Jonathan Walters, Michael Kightly, Leon Cort, Gifton Noel Williams, Wayne Thomas, Ade Akinbiyi Total spent: £19.5m

The road from Stoke is the one most travelled to Turf Moor, though the route from Manchester City is almost as well worn, with nine players making that trip.

Chelsea: Barcelona – 8 Players signed: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Cesc Fabregas, Pedro, Boudewijn Zenden, Emmanuel Petit, Deco, Juliano Belletti, Winston Bogarde Total spent: £95.9m

Chelsea have bought more from Barca but spent more with five other clubs: Benfica, Leicester, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and RB Leipzig.

Crystal Palace: Chelsea – 8  Players signed: Marc Guehi, Michy Batshuayi, Loic Remy, Gary Cahill, Patrick Bamford, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Scott Sinclair, Mikael Forssell. Total spent: £21.8m

The Eagles like shopping in Chelsea but they spend more when taking their trolley to Liverpool.

Everton: Manchester United – 8 Players signed: Morgan Schneiderlin, Phil Neville, Tim Howard, Darron Gibson, Donny van de Beek, Wayne Rooney, Tom Cleverley, Louis Saha, Jesper Blomqvist Total spent: £29.79m

Everton have done some solid favours for United over the last couple of decades. Hands up who else completely forgot Blomqvist’s 15-game spell with the Toffees…

Fulham: Chelsea – 8 Players signed: Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Michael Hector, Tomas Kalas, Lucas Piazon, Gael Kakuta, Wayne Bridge, John Harley, Bjarne Goldbaek Total spent: £10.4m

Fulham like to keep it in the capital, with eight players having made their way to the Cottage from each of Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham. Chelsea take it on account of trousering most cash from their near-neighbours.

Liverpool: Southampton – 8 Players signed: Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mané, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, Peter Crouch, Rickie Lambert, Paul Jones Total spent: £194.27m

The Reds spent around £35million more with Southampton than any other club and they could be sending another £50million the Saints’ way if they can raise the funds for Romeo Lavia.

Luton Town: Barnsley – 9 Players signed: Carlton Morris, Cauley Woodrow, Mads Andersen, George Moncur, Matty Pearson, Jack Walton, Elliot Lee, Simon Heslop, Marlon Beresford Total spent: £4.5m

Most of the sum transferred to the Tykes was spent recently when Mads Andersen left Oakwell for Kenilworth Road.

Manchester City: Aston Villa – 7 Players signed: Jack Grealish, James Milner, Gareth Barry, Fabian Delph, Darius Vassell, Stuart Taylor, Peter Schmeichel Total spent: £151.65m

Prior to City spending £100million on Grealish, Benfica profited more than anyone else from the champions’ wealth, with £115m finding its way into the Portuguese club’s account in return for Ederson, Ruben Dias and Javi Garcia.

Manchester United: Ajax – 4 Players signed: Daley Blind, Donny van de Beek, Lisandro Martinez, Antony Total spent: £178.3m

United have also bought four from Sporting Lisbon and Monaco this century but the signings of Lisandro Martinez and Antony last summer means Ajax have profited most from the Red Devils’ whims.

Newcastle: Chelsea – 7 Players signed: Damien Duff, Scott Parker, Christian Atsu, Kenedy, Geremi, Celestine Babayaro, Patrick van Aanholt Total spent: £29.70m

Seven players may have made the trek from west London to Tyneside but nine clubs have pocketed more silver from the Magpies.

Nottingham Forest: Aston Villa – 11 Players signed: Keinan Davis, Albert Adamoh, Ross McCormack, Aaron Tshibola, Gary Gardner, Eric Lichaj, Alan Hutton, Nicky Shorey, Isaiah Osbourne, Colin Calderwood, Riccardo Scimeca.  Total spent: £3m

Forest have had more players from Villa than even sister club Olympiacos, though it’s pretty close. Evangelos Marinakis has made 10 of his players switch between his clubs.

Sheffield United: Derby County – 10 Players signed: Max Lowe, Jaydon Bogle, Conor Sammon, Kieron Freeman, Paul Coutts, Ben Davies, Chris Porter, Paul Connolly, Jordan Stewart, Izale McLeod Total spent: £7m

All the Blades’ spend with Derby came in their most recent transaction: a double deal for Lowe and Bogle in 2020 that saw each priced at £3.5m apiece.

Tottenham: Southampton – 6 Players signed: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Gareth Bale, Victor Wanyama, Dean Richards, Fraser Forster, Paulo Gazzaniga  Total spent: £49.6m

The signing of Forster last year edged Saints ahead of Fulham, PSV Eindhoven, Portsmouth and West Ham as Spurs’ favourite place to shop.

West Ham have signed a whole team from Arsenal for one-thirteenth of a Declan Rice.

Similarly, Wolves have taken an XI off the Black Cats but only one of these deals – borrowing Danny Graham – has been done since 2009.
