Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has moved to dispel fears over the well-being of one of the club’s midfield stars.

Turning attentions back towards matters on the continent, Los Blancos made the trip to Germany, for a Champions League group stage final day meeting with Union Berlin.

In an entertaining affair, it was the visitors who emerged on the right side of the result, after Joselu’s brace was added to by a late Dani Ceballos winner.

On an otherwise positive night’s work for Real Madrid, however, one major personnel concern was nevertheless forthcoming.

This came at the interval in Berlin, upon Fede Valverde being withdrawn from the action.

Speaking to the media post-match, the subject of the midfield dynamo’s well-being was therefore put to boss Carlo Ancelotti.

And the Italian tactician went on to reveal that his substitution was pre-planned, to afford both Valverde and Toni Kroos – introduced in place of the Uruguayan – some much-needed rest.

“The changes agreed upon were Kroos and Valverde,” Ancelotti began, as cited by Sport. “They were tired and I didn’t want to give them too many minutes.”
